چکیده
The last one and half a decade witnessed an outstanding re-emergence of attention and remarkable progress in the field of protein methylation. In the present article, we describe the early discoveries in research and review the role protein methylation played in the biological function of the antiproliferative gene, BTG2/TIS21/PC3.

B cell translocation gene 2 enhances susceptibility of HeLa cells to doxorubicin-induced oxidative damage.
BTG2/TIS21/PC3 (B cell translocation gene 2) has been known as a p53 target gene and functions as a tumor suppressor in carcinogenesis of thymus, prostate, kidney, and liver. Although it has been known that the expression of BTG2/TIS21/PC3 is induced during chemotherapy-mediated apoptosis in cancer cells, a role of BTG2/TIS21/PC3 in cell death remains to be elucidated. In this study, the mechan...
متن کاملExpression of the antiproliferative gene TIS21 at the onset of neurogenesis identifies single neuroepithelial cells that switch from proliferative to neuron-generating division.
At the onset of mammalian neurogenesis, neuroepithelial (NE) cells switch from proliferative to neuron-generating divisions. Understanding the molecular basis of this switch requires the ability to distinguish between these two types of division. Here we show that in the mouse ventricular zone, expression of the mRNA of the antiproliferative gene TIS21 (PC3, BTG2) (i) starts at the onset of neu...
متن کاملPPARα-Target Gene Expression Requires TIS21/BTG2 Gene in Liver of the C57BL/6 Mice under Fasting Condition
The TIS21/BTG2/PC3 gene belongs to the antiproliferative gene (APRO) family and exhibits tumor suppressive activity. However, here we report that TIS21 controls lipid metabolism, rather than cell proliferation, under fasting condition. Using microarray analysis, whole gene expression changes were investigated in liver of TIS21 knockout (TIS21-KO) mice after 20 h fasting and compared with wild t...
متن کاملArrest of G(1)-S progression by the p53-inducible gene PC3 is Rb dependent and relies on the inhibition of cyclin D1 transcription.
The p53-inducible gene PC3 (TIS21, BTG2) is endowed with antiproliferative activity. Here we report that expression of PC3 in cycling cells induced accumulation of hypophosphorylated, growth-inhibitory forms of pRb and led to G(1) arrest. This latter was not observed in cells with genetic disruption of the Rb gene, indicating that the PC3-mediated G(1) arrest was Rb dependent. Furthermore, (i) ...
متن کاملInhibition of medulloblastoma tumorigenesis by the antiproliferative and pro-differentiative gene PC3.
Medulloblastoma, the most common brain tumor in childhood, appears to originate from cerebellar granule cell precursors (GCPs), located in the external granular layer (EGL) of the cerebellum. The antiproliferative gene PC3 (Tis21/BTG2) promotes cerebellar neurogenesis by inducing GCPs to shift from proliferation to differentiation. To assess whether PC3 can prevent the neoplastic transformation...
